Some People Build Muscle. I Build Cellulite.

I use to say I can only lose 5 lbs if I cut a limb off.  It wasn’t far from the truth.  It was impossible for me to lose weight.  I worked out like a crazy person.  I lifted weights. I ran 20 miles a week. I trained for 5 half marathon. The weight would not budge. About three years ago I discovered I had a gluten sensitivity.  Gluten is a wheat protein.  Once I completely eliminate it from my diet I lost 15 lbs.  Since then research has shown some people can not lose extra fat if they have a gluten issue.  With that said, my battle with self-image and weight lose has been a long one.

With the mystery of why weight lost was impossible for me solved, I have now been able to focus on reaching new fitness goals.  What I have learned about my body is that the fat girl inside me does not part ways with her cellulite without a fight.  What takes most people 12 weeks to achieve takes me 24 weeks.  I get very frustrated. I want results now, not in 12 weeks and surely not in 24 weeks!  It is a test in being patient for me.

This week at the gym I was discussing some frustration with a workout buddy.  In that conversation came the phrase, “Some people build muscle. I build cellulite.” He was equally frustrated regarding some of his progress.  He was annoyed at what he was reading in his research of using creatine. Some say up the amount, some say cut it out.  That’s when it hit me. I told him that’s because different things work for different people.  With a look of dismay, we concluded it will be a constant trial and error kind of journey.  We have guidelines of what will work for most people, but the fine details of a lean, cutting diet is something every individual must discover on his or her own.  DNA plays a huge part in us achieving our fitness goals.

As for my cellulite, it might not leave.  I am waiting for the body building category of building cellulite against all odds.  Surely there is some kind of extraordinary feat going  on for cellulite to thrive under the current conditions I provide. I should sign up to be a research project.
